Sumy State University (SSU) conducts training on 59 specialties of 36 areas and 23 fields of knowledge (computer science; informatics; applied mathematics; mechanics; automatics and controlling; electronics; nanotechnology; electrical engineering; energetics; mechanical engineering; materials science; chemical engineering; ecology; quality, standardization, certification; economics and business; management; medicine; law; journalism; translation etc. )
About 22 thousand people are getting their education on different studying forms, educational and qualified levels. .

According to the Webometrics Rating, SSU takes the 7th place in worldwide Internet rating among Ukrainian institutes of higher education (in Junuary, 2011).
The university takes high positions among Ukrainian institutes of higher education for its number of prize places , that were won by SSU students in All-Ukrainian Olympiads on educational disciplines, training areas, specialties (from 2004- prize places; 2008-09 year (a. y.), 2009-10 year – the 4th place).
For its number of prize places in All- Ukrainian Competitions of students’ research works SSU takes the leading places among Ukrainian institutes of higher education (2005-06 a. y., 2007-08 a.y., 2008-09 a.y., 2009-10 a.y.- the first place, 2006-07 a.y.- the third place).

SSU is a member of International Association of Universities, European Association of Universities, Eurasian Association of Universities, World Health Organization and other international organizations.
|
About 900 foreign students of almost 60 countries, including the USA, Western Europe, Australia, all regions of Africa and Asia, are studying in SSU.

Scientific and methodological activities
|
|
SSU publishing house prints 10 professional scientific journals , publishes about 70 textbooks, educational supplieswith a stamp MESU (Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine), monographs, 800 scientific articles every year. According to information of the largest abstract and citation database Scopus, in January, 2009, SSU is on the 17th position among Ukrainian universities of higher education for a number of quotations of SSU researchers’ published works by world scientific community.
The Regional Center of Distant Learning works in SSU. It has its local centers in different regions of Ukraine.

On SSU basis students from universities of higher education of Sumy and other Ukrainian regions can undergo training of reserve officers.
Ratio of amount of performed scientific works, that are financed at the expense of special funds, to amount of scientific works, that are financed by state budget fund, is equal to 2, 65.
About 70 Doctors of sciences, Professors, more than 450 Candidates of sciences, Associate professors work at the university.

The university has powerful computer and telecommunication system that consists of 2, 5 thousand computers, a computing cluster and about 90 computer classes.

Affiliated branch of UNESCO Department on information technologies, resource and educational centers MICROSOFT, CISCO, DELCAM, NETCRACKER, 1С, SIEMENS, Sun electronics etc. work at SSU.

Extracurricular activities

Students’ self-government system is developed.
27 kinds of sport are cultivated in the university. There are record-holders and prizemen of world, European and Ukrainian championships among SSU students.

There are 2 People’s ensembles and about 15 circles of amateurs’ performances, schools and clubs at SSU.
SSU School Club for the Lightheaded and Quick-witted (CLQ) consists of SSU teams and School league of CLQ.
